The title of this beautiful piece reminds me of a fascinating novel titled FLOWERS FOR ALGERNON by Daniel Keyes published in 1959. You would do yourself a favor to read it if you haven't already. I saw the play which was based on the book in a community college theater here in Colorado Springs.
